History of Schwaklakk

11 March. 1996.

Late winter in the Watson/Peters household, and the youngsters wanted out of school for the day, so a holiday was devised. "Go to school." the adults responded. The children wept. But, upon their return from school, the parents had supplied cards with minimal amounts of money enclosed, and several bars of Ivory soap. "A holiday needs a tradition. How about carving soap?" "Yeah!" "What shall we name this holiday?" "Schwaklakk!" "Yeah!" Thus, Schwaklakk (rhymes with clock) was born.

Since it’s birth, we’ve made a few changes along the way…like eating cream corn (that didn’t stick), in 2001, we had a mascot, Mr. T, but most importantly, Schwaklakk now has it’s own drink. Baileyboolua! Which is equal parts Baileys irish cream, Malibu rum, and Kalua. The kids just love the stuff! And although, the holiday was originally created to get out of school, people from far and wide have been knocking at our door expressing an interest in celebrating with us. After slamming that door for the first several years, we decided we needed to move said holiday to the nearest weekend to keep our property from being egged and/or toilet papered.
